Apologies for the late report this week.
A cracking performance from the girls on a lovely pitch in beautiful sunshine! While Finchampstead had some good players we were in control for the vast majority of the match. Maddie got the goals started with a coolly taken finish with her left foot! We were playing really well in patches, passing the ball around well and tracking back as a team when we lost it.
We did struggle to deal with their goal keepers long kicks though, with the midfield getting caught too far up the pitch and the kick bypassing them and putting pressure on our defence. They scored from just such a situation levelling the score on 13 minutes. Long goal kicks aside the defence dealt well with everything thrown at them with Neve, Abigail, Sophia and Dolcie cleaning up and playing some great balls into the midfield. Izzy also did a brilliant job for the team in goal, in the 1st half, with Rose out.
Maddie scored her second on 20 minutes, before getting her hattrick 3 minutes later with a powerful penalty that the keeper had no chance of stopping.
Finchampstead scored themselves just before half time meaning it was 2-3 at the break. In the second half Neve volunteered to go in goal with Izzy taking position in the centre of the park. Two minutes into the half Izzy scored with a looping shot that their keeper couldn't keep out. From then on we dominated possession and territory and rarely looked in trouble. Frances, Izzy, Sienna, Millie and Evie had some great passing moments and Maddie continued to cause their defence real problems up front.
There were some great performances across the team, but POM had to go to Maddie for a brilliant performance up front and a well deserved hattrick! MIM went to Izzy for her part in a brilliant passing move in the second half and a selfless performance in goal in the first half.
That is five wins on the bounce for the Wolves along with some great performances to boot. Still some stuff to work on in training, but really proud of the effort that the girls are putting in and the progress we are seeing week to week. Well done girls !!
