Biblical conditions!

This was very much a game of two halves. We started brilliantly with some great pressing to win the ball high up the pitch and then some brilliant passing and movement. Millie finished off possibly our best ever team goal with 3 or four passes being made before Amalia selflessly crossed the ball to Millie who calmly placed it into the back of the net.
For the 1st fifteen minutes Caversham couldn't deal with us, the girls were passing the ball around brilliantly and attacking with numbers making it really hard for them to defend against.
Our second goal came from our 4th corner in a row, when Evie played an excellent ball into the centre that was superbly finished by Izzy on the half volley. The second goal seemed to galvanise Caversham and they were much more aggressive when they didn't have the ball. This seemed to make us panic a bit and our passing was less fluid giving them the ball back and inviting pressure on ourselves.

On eighteen minutes Caversham scored with a well taken shot from the right wing that nestled in the bottom corner. Aside from that they had very few opportunities with our defence doing a great job of snuffing out any danger.

We created some opportunities ourselves but had lost some of the intensity that had served us so well at the beginning of the half.

In the second half much of the game was played in our half. There were a couple of occasions where they had opportunities to score when the ball fell to them in our box but some great last ditched defending cleared the danger. We still looked dangerous on the break, but misplaced the final pass or tried to take one too many defenders on. With just over 10 minutes to go Caversham scored a wonder goal straight from the corner which was undoubtedly assisted by the wind and driving rain!

To be fair to the girls they never gave up and we created a few chances ourselves before the match ended, but a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game. Caversham has some really good players and made it really hard for us. I'm a little disappointed we didn't take all three points, but can't fault the girls effort in the cold, wet and windy conditions.

POM went to Amalia for her most determined performance for the Wolves. She did a great job defending from the front and her pass for Millie's goal was excellent! MIM was awarded to Evie for the fantastic corner that Izzy guided home, her corners were causing Caversham all sorts of problems and on another day could have been the source of more goals for us.

Well done girls, the conditions were far from ideal for a game of football, but you gave it your all and played some of the best football I have seen us play for the first quarter of the game. Hopefully the weather will be a little kinder next week when we welcome our old friends Slough Town to the Memorial Park!
